Pinotage once more 5 September 2007

Yes.... but....(no, but yes...but...) I think there are some tremendous Pinotages beeing made right now that are great to drink young -- bold fruit-forward wines that bear no resemblance to some of the shockers from the past.

Even from where I used to avoid – the cheaper end – just try Beyerskloof 2006 or Bellevue’s Sizanini 2005 (only R22 at the cellar, although we Brits are paying £6.99 in the UK).

The close association between South Africa and Pinotage is a double-edged sword because some seem to criticise Pinotage as a means to bash SA.

 

That last point is one that hadn't occurred to me, and I'm sure it's true
