Stellenbosch University launches evaluation course 6 February 2008

Your chance to get certified as a Veritas judge....

Stellenbosch University, long-time South African bastion of the academic side of viticulture, has announced a new course to train wine tasters, judges and ‘evaluators’. Wine judging is a contentious subject internationally and this course seems aimed at charting new territory – with the university’s academic backing.

The ten-week course is also unique in that combines ‘distance learning’ with what is called ‘face-to-face contact sessions’. The course is compiled by well-known Stellenbosch University lecturer, Charl Theron, and facilitated by Getsmarter, a new learning facility for university short courses, using the internet.

The Stellenbosch University Certificate in Wine Evaluation Course is aimed at people in the wine industry, but also wine lovers generally. Significantly, it is punted as certifying ‘students to be selected for tasting on the South African Wine and Spirits Board and Veritas tasting panels’.

The project starts April 14 (registration by end March) and costs R3 500.00 excluding VAT.
