Scenting victory 2 August 2007

Gold for two Cape muscats in an international competition

A top ten place went to Rietvallei 1908 Muscadel 2003 (it’s the second date in the confusing name that is the vintage!) in this year’s Muscats du Monde competition, held in July in the muscat-oriented town of Frontignan-la-Peyrade in France. Rietvallei was also a gold medallist last year.

Gold medals were awarded in 2007 to 25 wines (out of a total of 210 entered, from 23 countries), from France, Italy, Switzerland, Lebanon and Greece, as well as South Africa. Another South African wine getting gold, in addition to the Rietvallei, is the barrel-matured Monis Muscadel 2000.
