Four international trophies for SA 6 September 2007

Decanter announces its top awards

Cape wines did remarkably well when the international trophies in the Decanter World Wine Awards were announced in London last night. Regional trophies had been announced some time back, and the latest results emerged from the different regional trophies being pitted against each other. Of the 25 international trophies, four went to South Africa – including three for red wines, which might surprise some critics. Most of the awards went to ‘New World’ countries.

New Zealand will not have been pleased to see the International Sauvignon Blanc Over £10 Trophy going to Cape Point Vineyards for the Sauvignon Blanc 2005. Other winners were:

• International Red Blend Over £10 Trophy: Spice Route Malabar 2004

• International Rhone Blend Over £10 Trophy: Sadie Family Columella 2004

• International Bordeaux Blend Over £10 Trophy: Oak Valley Oak Valley Blend 2004.

A full list of the trophy winners is given on the Decanter website
