Platter prize 7 September 2007

Guide’s editor wins international award

The editor of the John Platter South African Wine Guide was announced as the winner of the 2007 Ott Award for Annual Wine Guides. Philip van Zyl was in London to collect the award at the presentation on Wednesday evening of the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards. Van Zyl and Platter publisher Andrew McDowall were fortunately able to pass through London on their way to deliver the next edition of the guide to the printers in Singapore, and the detour was well rewarded.

The panel of judges was chaired by Steven Spurrier, President of the Circle of Wine Writers. Other awards included those to Andrew Jefford as International Wine Writer of the Year 2007, and to James Halliday for the Wine Atlas of Australia (International Book of the Year).
