Award for Grape writer

The South African Wine Writers Award for 2010 was given to Tim James at a ceremony in Franschhoek over the weekend. This was the second such award, associated with the Franschhoek Literary Festival, made on the basis of an article published in the previous year. All local writers were invited to participate, with an article in any language. Judges this year were British writer Tim Atkin, local broadcaster and informed winelover John Maytham, and Ton Vosloo, chairperson of Naspers.

Tim's prize of R25 000 (and a special one-off "trophy" made by artist Sam Nhlengethwa) was for his article entitled "Red Semillon: Return of the Wine Grape", which was published in the British magazine World of Fine Wine 25. The article is available for downloading here.

Does it not carry a certain amount of weight, after all? pass4sure 646-985 What role does the subject play in the virtual data space? pass4sure 642-357 In this exhibition, the Academy of Media Arts will question the arrival of the virtual future and, as the exhibition title suggests, expose pass4sure 642-262 the immaterial as Heavy Matter.
