The British magazine Decanter has anounced the results of its Decanter International Awards. South Africa wone two of the International trophies, and a number of other gold medals.Wines are judged on a regional level to promote a sense of origin, and in price bands. The chair of the South African judging panel was John Avery MW who, according to the generic description of regional chairs, was chosen for "specialist knowledge" of the country's wines.

The judging process is as follows: Wines are scored and graded. There is then a taste-off of Gold medal-winning wines for each region, with the best of each style awarded a regional trophy. Regional trophies then compete against each other to decide the International Trophy winners. Full results are available on the Decanter website.
